Description
ITS offers a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to allow LSU Faculty, Staff and Students to connect to the LSU network from off campus. This service will allow users to access LSU resources from anywhere on the Internet through an encrypted, secure tunnel. By using the VPN, LSU network users will be able to access resources that would otherwise be inaccessible without being physically located on the LSU Campus.
When to use VPN?

You should use VPN if you meet any of the following criteria:

- You find yourself off campus and want to access LSU restricted electronic resources:  By using VPN, your machine will be recognized as an LSU affiliate. Some resources you may access are: shared folders, client email programs like Outlook, Entourage and Thunderbird, and other resources like electronic journals.

- When transmitting sensitive data (e.g. passwords, social security numbers, and other confidential information) across the internet:  VPN provides security by encrypting data to and from your computer, in effect creating a private tunnel through the Internet for your communication.  Once your data reaches the LSU campus, it is then unencrypted by our VPN concentrators.
